Pharmacognosy is the branch of pharmacy that studies plants or other natural sources as a possible source of drugs. Pharmacognosy as "the study of the physical, chemical, biochemical, and biological properties of drugs, drug substances, or potential drugs or drug substances of natural origin as well as the search for new drugs from natural sources. The Department of Pharmacognosy was founded in 1988 to keep up with the rapid innovations in the knowledge and use of medicinal plants. There has been a growing acceptance of herbal drugs throughout the world over the past three decades. The universal role of plants in the treatment of disease is exemplified by their use in all major medicinal systems. The department has excellent research facilities focused on isolating, purifying and investing active medicinal plants, researching phytochemistry, phytotherapy and medicinal biotechnology (tissue and cell culture), developing and characterizing herbal formulation.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a branch of discipline in the health science that deals with discovery, development, and identification & interpretation of the mode of biologically active compounds at the molecular level. The faculties in the pharmaceutical department experienced foreign exposure and promote teaching and learning in various chemistry subjects by inculcating various ICT tools that meet with international standards. The faculties are the inspiration to the students for their day to day activities and getting constant support at various junctures. They shape the student's community into outstanding professionals by their expertise. The department is vested with state of art infrastructure and provides top-notch facilities to the budding pharmacists inculcated with various skills, including communication skills, psychomotor skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The department offers training in various aspects of pharmaceutical chemistry to both undergraduate and diploma students, who may subsequently be taking their footsteps in research, academic, industry, and health care settings. The department aimed to prepare the professionally well-qualified pharmacy graduates to excel in this competitive world in various aforementioned sectors.
Pharmaceutical analysis is a core department which is responsible for imparting knowledge in the field of modern instrumental techniques for B.Pharm, and all branches of M.Pharm. It involves basic research in identity, purity, content and stability of starting materials, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Impurities usually stem from the synthesis of the active ingredients; they are usually monitored according to the ICH guidelines and the pharmacopoeia standards. The department is actively involved in the method development of synthetic and natural drugs, pharmacokinetic studies, TDM studies, stability studies, elucidation of newly synthesized drugs using infrared spectroscopy, UV. The department of pharmaceutical analysis has the modern equipments with good infrastructure facilities.
Vision: To produce a competent Pharmaceutical Analyst to meet the demands of the Pharmaceutical Industries in terms of analysis, Quality control of materials (raw and finished), standards and compliance with regulatory bodies and to provide Quality Assurance to the Pharma Industry for the manufacture of either formulations or bulk drugs.
Pharmacology is a separate discipline in the health sciences. Pharmacology is the study of how a drug affects a biological system and how the body responds to the drug. The discipline encompasses the sources, chemical properties, biological effects and therapeutic uses of drugs in the attempt to improve health and improve disease, studies the mechanisms by which drugs alter biological systems. And also encompass the molecular basis of drug action, the actions of drugs on cells, organs, and organisms, genetic variations in drug action, and drug discovery. The department offers training in pharmacology and toxicology to both undergraduate and diploma students, who may subsequently go on to exciting research, regulatory and administrative careers in academic, industrial and healthcare provision settings. In this direction, the department goal is to prepare exceptional students for prolific and successful careers in pharmaceutical industry, academia, research and public sectors.
Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with the process of turning a new chemical entity or old drugs into a medication to be used safely and effectively by patients. It is also called the science of dosage form design. Pre-formulation studies, drug-excepients compatibility studies and stability studies are carried out in the department with the focus on developing newer dosage forms. The Pharmaceutics department has spacious laboratories and machine room with most recent Instruments like Tablet punching and coating machine, Disintegration and Dissolution apparatus, BOD Incubator, Laminar airflow chamber etc.,. The department will make every effort to befall excellence in the vicinity of drug development, with the goal of developing cost efficient newer delivery systems for improved medication compliance.
